The Neighborhood Bridge Sponsors Youth Civic Engagement Event
On Saturday, September 20, 2025, The Neighborhood Bridge proudly sponsored a Youth Civic Engagement event at Michele Clark High School, hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Xi Lambda Chapter’s A Voteless People is a Hopeless People Committee.
The program was developed in response to concerns about youth engagement raised earlier this year and was designed to help young people better understand civic life and their role in shaping the future of their community. Students participated in an interactive exercise that introduced them to the three branches of government and the responsibilities of elected officials. The session was followed by a panel discussion featuring local leaders, including Alderman Emma Mitts, Alderman Walter “Red” Burnett Jr., and Latonya Mitts.
The event was made possible through collaboration with several partner organizations, including Common Cause Illinois, Good Kids Mad City (GKMC), Chicago Votes, and the Leaders Network.
The Neighborhood Bridge is committed to supporting opportunities like this that equip youth with the tools and knowledge they need to become active participants in civic life. Events like these build the foundation for long-term youth engagement and stronger communities across Chicago.
