Tara Stamps
Tara Stamps (Board of Directors Member) has devoted her life to transforming communities into places of belonging, equity, and justice. Since 2023, she has served as Cook County Commissioner for the 1st District, with a passion for affordable healthcare, higher wages, better jobs, restorative justice, and violence prevention.
Born to the legendary freedom fighter and civil rights icon Marion Stamps, Commissioner Stamps grew up in Chicago’s Cabrini-Green neighborhood. She earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from Central State University and later earned master’s degrees in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership. She taught in Chicago Public Schools for 25 years and served in various roles with the Chicago Teachers Union. She is the proud mother of 3 adult children.
